An Apostille is like the cover of a document for use in foreign countries that are part of the
Hague Apostille Convention. Apostille is a French word which means certification. The apostille certifies that the Tennessee documents are signed by the official notaries or state officials in good standing.
To get an apostille in Tennessee, first, complete the documents according to the Secretary of State's website guidelines. Complete notarization or obtain the certified copy if required from the official.
When your document is ready, fill out the TN apostille request form SS-4504, complete the payment, and submit these documents along with the certified copies to the office of the Tennessee Secretary of State's Business Service Division. For in-person service, you can visit the office from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except on holidays. If you are using a mailing service, then enclose a prepaid return shipping label with your name. The Tennessee Secretary of State's office will issue the apostille and return your document accordingly.
